Licensed under <a title=\"Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0\" href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-sa\/3.0\/\">CC BY-SA 3.0<\/a> via <a href=\"\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Basics of Energy<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cellular Biology gives us the understanding of basic energy in animals (as well as plants, fungi and some bacteria).\u00a0 All of these use the <a href=\"http:\/\/simple.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Krebs_cycle\">Kreb&#8217;s Cycle<\/a> to produce basic energy to power cellular processes.\u00a0 The net process of these reactions is ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate).\u00a0 ATP is used by cells to power other processes. Extrapolating from that point backwards, where does the energy\u00a0 come from?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sugars are converted to smaller compounds which form primary metabolic units needed in the Kreb&#8217;s Cycle.\u00a0 Proteins, Lipids (fats), and other carbohydrates are also mostly converted to sugars.\u00a0 Sugars, Lipids and Proteins come from food.\u00a0 To survive all animal cells need inputs of oxygen and food.\u00a0 Extrapolating forward, food provides energy which then flex muscles and fire neurons.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Larger picture of Energy<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Food powers cellular processes needed for cellular life\u00a0 and thus the whole organism.\u00a0 Other types of energy are either a subset of this energy, or mystical &#8220;Energy&#8221; that cannot be measured, is non-existent, or used to cover up the actual method of training.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Everything in a multi-cellular organism requires the basic processes\u00a0 powered by food to live.\u00a0 In order for an animal to move, think, digest, sleep, breath etc. they need food.\u00a0 Cellular energy is the basic unit of all other energies in an organism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Neural impulses function off this energy.\u00a0 They fire muscular contractions, which also use cellular energy.\u00a0 So to get a dog to sit, the first need is food to power the impulse and then the contraction.\u00a0 Oxygen is delivered from the blood, which is created in the bone marrow (cellular division requires cellular energy) and the blood is pumped by the heart, a muscle that requires cellular energy to contract the muscle fibers.\u00a0 All in all, animals need food to function.\u00a0 Fear, pain, discomfort, enjoyment, fun and love\u00a0 (to name a few) require, at a basic level, cellular energy.\u00a0 Other types of &#8220;Energy&#8221; cannot provide an animal with the ability to move, think or even digest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Energy&#8221; usually means some mystical connection between trainer and dog.\u00a0 Is a possibility of ESP, Telepathy or other mystical force real?\u00a0 Science cannot and has not in 3000+ years measured or proven the existence of these mystical forces.\u00a0 Usually other means are being used being used involving food, discomfort or even pain.\u00a0 Using the term &#8220;Energy&#8221; does a disservice to pet parents attempting to determine the method best for their pet.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Training with Energy<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So animals needs food to survive.\u00a0 Use of food seems to make the most sense in training.\u00a0 Not only is food something an animal needs, but most animals actually like food!\u00a0 (a built in evolutionary advantage-if you don&#8217;t like food, you don&#8217;t survive)\u00a0 Shunning food, for training shuns the very energy dogs need to survive.\u00a0 Denying food for training should lead to a question.\u00a0 <em><strong>What is being used to motivate the dog?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Motivation is important.\u00a0 Organisms seek to survive, procreate and thus pass on their genes.\u00a0 One key aspect to survival is getting food.\u00a0 Another key aspect of survival is avoiding danger.\u00a0 These are the main forms of motivation &#8211; getting good stuff and avoiding bad stuff.\u00a0 Most talk of\u00a0 &#8220;Energy&#8221; is a mask for the later, rather than the former.\u00a0 Motivating with bad stuff has bad potential side effects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Covering up bad side effects with a term sounding comforting should be considered irresponsible at best, negligent at worst.\u00a0 Imagine a teacher saying that they use their &#8220;Energy&#8221; to train 5 year olds not be bullies; they then attach a noose around Johny&#8217;s neck and yank every time he kicks over someones sand castle.\u00a0 They claim they aren&#8217;t hurting the boy, because he&#8217;s respecting their &#8220;Energy&#8221;.\u00a0 They neglect to mention that the real (physical) energy they&#8217;re transferring could actually damage Johny&#8217;s neck, not to mention physiological trauma.\u00a0 Such a teacher would at the very least be fired.\u00a0 This is not uncommon in dog training however.\u00a0 Being aware of what is actually being used as a motivator is important.\u00a0 Using Energy in Dog Training?\u00a0 Use food.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Using Energy in Dog training?
